Duke of Kent visits Vitalise Churchtown – Current News
Wednesday 07 May 2008
Vitalise had great pleasure in welcoming HRH the Duke of Kent to its Vitalise Churchtown Centre on 7 May 2008. The Duke officially opened the Centre’s new boardwalk.
The wheelchair-accessible boardwalk means guests with disabilities have the opportunity to explore Vitalise Churchtown’s extensive nature trail.
The first stages of work on the boarwalk were carried out by Roche Young Farmers in 2003, with initial funding from Barclays Bank. The final stages were then completed earlier this year by members of the Royal Navy and the US Navy during their annual work day at the Centre.
During his visit, the Duke met with service users from Vitalise Churchtown’s Day Centre and children from Doubletrees school, who were participating in some of the activities available at the Centre.
Day Services Manager, Rob Evely said
'It was a great honour to welcome the Duke of Kent to our Centre, the day service users were delighted to meet a member of the royal family.’
Centre Manager, Gabbie Robinson said
'This was an amazing opportunity for us to show His Royal Highness what Vitalise Churchtown is all about, and for us to recognise all those who supported and worked building this fantastic new boardwalk.’
Set on a beautiful 12-acre site in the village of Lanlivery near Bodmin, Vitalise Churchtown is a fully accessible Centre offering activity breaks and day services to adults and children with physical, sensory and learning disabilities.
