Why Vitalise needs your help

One in four people in the UK is affected by disability – either they are disabled themselves or they care for someone who is. Vitalise helps thousands of disabled people each year with our short breaks and other services, but there are many thousands more in desperate need of support.

We spend over £7.5 million a year to ensure high quality care for disabled guests at our Centres, yet we receive no central government funding. We have to make every penny count and we badly need the support and generosity of our fundraisers.

Vital stats 

• We organise over 7,000 week-long breaks each year at our five UK Centres
• We cater for over 150 different disabilities including cerebral palsy, Alzheimer’s disease and MS
• Guests can choose from over 500 activities and dozens of special theme weeks throughout the year so they can take the break that’s best for them
• Each year we rely on the support of over 6,000 dedicated volunteers at our Centres
• Providing high quality care at our Centres costs us over £7.5 million a year
   

How your support benefits disabled people and carers

Below are just some of the costs that your fundraising can help with.

However you fundraise, and whether you can raise a few pounds from a sponsored silence, hundreds of pounds from a sporting challenge or thousands of pounds from a large event, we are immensely grateful for all your hard work.

• £49 pays for a much-needed evening out and social events for a carer for one week
• £203 means we can place a volunteer at a Vitalise Centre for one week
• £542 covers the cost of specialist nursing care for one guest for one week
• £2,300 can buy an adjustable bed and electronic hoist with tracking to increase guest’s comfort, dignity and independence
• £3,500 covers the extra cost of running a specialist Alzheimer's week for 36 guests. We run the only service in the country of its kind where couples can take a break together
• £10,000 would train 150 volunteers who together would provide 6,000 hours of support and companionship to our guests
• £25,000 pays for one week’s worth of specialist nursing care for five guests
• £120,000 could fund a new coach, enabling our guests to enjoy trips and excursions. Each Vitalise coach covers 17,000 miles and around 480 trips per year.
