The unspoilt Lappish community of Äkäslompolo will be your ideal base for this cross country skiing holiday.

The Ylläs region offers miles of ski trails which are cleverly arranged so that you can change your route half-way through if you wish, giving you countless alternative routes. Many of the tracks take you inside the Pallas-Ylläs National Park, where the beautiful natural surroundings have been carefully preserved.

There are also ‘warm tracks’ where it might be as much as 15 degrees warmer than in the village. Excellent ski tracks, illuminated trails, versatile routes and variable terrain combine to create the perfect skiing experience. There is also a wide choice of other activities available, including exhilarating reindeer, husky and snowmobile safaris. What’s more the skies here are especially clear, ideal for witnessing the magical Northern Lights.

We’ll be staying at the Hotel Äkäs, an atmospheric, friendly hotel just 500m from the centre of Äkäslompolo village. The hotel’s popular restaurant, bar and night club are at the centre of the village’s nightlife.
