The beautiful archipelago of the Isles of Scilly, just 28 miles off Land’s End, offers an idyllic getaway from the bustle of everyday life. Each of the five sparsely inhabited islands and islets has something different to offer, with nature trails and tracks through woodland and heath, along rocky coastlines and sandy beaches.
The Scilly Isles benefit from the warm air of the Gulf Stream and provide an ideal habitat for a wide variety of exotic plant and bird life. The famous gardens of Tresco Abbey are a must for any plant lover and the smaller islets are home to numerous species of wild birds and animals, including puffins, oystercatchers and grey seals, perfect for budding naturalists.
We’ll be staying at the Bell Rock Hotel on St Mary’s, the largest island of the group. At just over three miles wide, the island can be explored with the assistance of an audio-described bus tour. From St Mary’s you will be able to enjoy day trips to the smaller islands and locations such as St Martin’s Vineyard.
