Due to popular demand, we are offering this second opportunity to visit the ancient land of Egypt and walk in the footsteps of the Pharaohs. Cruise from Luxor to Aswan, travelling in style and soaking up the romance of the River Nile where Anthony and Cleopatra fell in love. Relax on board the cruise ship as it glides up the River Nile through spectacular scenery and past some of the world’s most impressive archaeological sites.
Our journey begins in Luxor, the modern city built over the remains of Thebes, the ancient capital of the Egyptian empire. Visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak on the east bank of the Nile and the Temple of Hatshepsut on the west bank, dedicated to the first woman to rule Egypt as Pharaoh.
Experience the treasures of the west bank and the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, where many of Egypt’s dynastic families were laid to rest, including the famous ‘boy king’ Tutankhamun. Take the opportunity to enter some of these sacred sites, with decorations on the walls that appear as fresh and vibrant as the day they were painted.
Visit the idyllic Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis, set on the island of Agilika, in the centre of the Nile. It is hard to believe that this entire complex of buildings was moved from its original island site before the building of the Aswan High Dam, to preserve it from the rising waters. There will be the chance to return to the temple at night for a spectacular sound and light show, illuminating both the buildings and the lives of the ancient worshippers.
Travel to the impressive Aswan High Dam, a wonder of modern engineering, spanning the Nile and creating the third largest reservoir in the world, Lake Nasser. The lake covers an area of 5,250 square kilometres and stretches for 550 kilometres into what was the ancient land of Nubia.
Experience traditional boat travel on the Nile by taking a ride in a felucca. These sail boats are still used by many fishermen today to fish the waters of the Nile and are a popular way for local traders to move their goods between riverside towns.
After experiencing the excitement of Egypt’s many treasures, there will still be plenty of time to relax on the sun deck of our cruise ship, take a dip in the roof-top pool, or explore the souks and markets of modern Egypt, with the chance to barter for your souvenirs.
