Explore the Midlands Break

Our Explore the Midlands Break offers a packed programme of activities and excursions. Our accessible vehicles will transport you to some of the many tourist attractions and traditional market towns in the East Midlands.

Smiling womanThe trips on offer each week vary, but always give you the chance to experience a range of our favourite activities and attractions.

The city of Nottingham offers excellent shopping and lively nightlife but also boasts a rich history and heritage, not least as home of the legendary Robin Hood.

A little further away, some of our favourite destinations include Snibston Discovery Park, the vibrant city of Derby and the traditional market towns of Burton on Trent and Melton Mowbray.

The rolling Midlands countryside is also home to some fabulous parks and country estates. Some of our favourites are:

  • Chatsworth Estate
  • Wollaton Park
  • Rufford Country Park

If you love to shop you'll be spoilt for choice with Nottingham's Meadowhall Shopping Centre and East Midlands McArthur Glen both close by.

Meanwhile, guests with an interest in gadgets and gizmos will love The Think Tank Science Museum in Birmingham which has over 200 hands-on displays as well as a Planetarium and IMAX Cinema.

Guest favourite: Sherwood Forest

Woman in a Sherwood Forest capSherwood Forest is world famous as the legendary home of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. But did you know this historic Royal Hunting Forest is also an ecological hotspot?

The forest is home to some of Europe’s greatest trees, as well as rare lowland heathland. 900 veteran oak trees can be found within the forest, including the famous 800 year old Major Oak. According to local lore, its hollow trunk was used as a hideout by Robin Hood’s men.

The Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is situated on a level site and is fully accessible for wheelchairs. A number of paths, such as the Major Oak path, are accessible to wheelchairs. Accessibility information is available from the Visitor Information Point or the Rangers' Office.

Admission to Sherwood Forest Park and the Visitor Centre is free.
