Vikki heywoodKarren bradyKarren Brady (pictured right), Managing Director of Birmingham City FC, has been named Vitalise Businesswoman of the Year 2007, in a gala award ceremony in support of Vitalise.

Vikki Heywood (pictured far right), Executive Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, received the June Lawrie Woman of Achievement award in recognition of her outstanding contribution to British theatre.

The Ceremony, in its 25th anniversary year, took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, NEC on 5 October 2007. The event was presented by Arti Halai of ITV’s Central News and hosted by Viscountess Cobham. The keynote speech was delivered by fitness guru Rosemary Conley CBE. Over 700 Midlands-based businesswomen attended the ceremony, which also featured a Selfridges fashion show, a preview of the new Jaguar XK and a surprise appearance by historical re-enactors The Knights of Middle England.

Proceeds from the ceremony will be donated directly to Vitalise Skylarks, which is set to benefit by over £35,000 from the event. Over the previous 24 years, the awards have raised an incredible £435,000 for the Centre.

Sophie Cox, Vitalise’s Head of Events, said:
“The generosity of the thousands of Midlands-based women who have attended this event over 25 years has generated a staggering amount of money for Vitalise Skylarks. This money helps us continue providing desperately-needed breaks for the tens of thousands of disabled people and carers across the Midlands region, for whom a week at Skylarks can mean the difference between coping and despair.”

The awards honour Midlands-based women’s outstanding individual achievement in business and provide positive role models to encourage other women to enter the business arena.

“Each of these women is an inspiration,” said awards chair, Judy Groves of SCC, a sponsor of the awards. “The Vitalise Women of the Year Awards proudly acknowledges and rewards the exceptional ambition and triumph over adversity that successful business women must possess.”

The Vitalise Women of the Year Awards 2007 was sponsored by Bravissimo, Browne Jacobson, Business Link, Jaguar, SCC, Secantor and Selfridges.
