Vitalise Home Respite for Carers

Approximately one in six people in the UK provide unpaid care for a loved one or friend. Many provide over 50 hours of care per week. Our respite services are designed to help you take a break.

a carer relaxing on a breakIf you are a carer you may find that your own health suffers or find you don’t have time for other commitments or a social life of your own. Maybe you struggle to combine work with caring, or find you are unable to get an undisturbed night’s sleep.

Our respite services provide a trained care worker to visit you at home. This provides you with the space and time to do other things without worrying. Our care workers will ensure the person you care for is safe and secure and carry out any personal or practical care tasks that might be required.

Types of respite break available

There are a number of options for how and when breaks are provided. These currently include:

  • Regular weekly visits at the same time – during the day or at night
  • Short notice crisis cover – we aim to respond within two working days. This service can be useful if you suffer an accident or become unwell and are unable to carry out your normal care tasks
  • Extended breaks – over a long weekend, for example

Some of our breaks services are available in certain areas only. If we can't help you directly we will put you in touch with, or explain your situation to a colleague from a breaks service more local to you (with your permission) or help find and connect you with a local agency providing similar form of help.

Carers are also welcome to take a respite break at one of our Centres. This can be accompanying the person you care for or a break just for you. More information on short breaks at Vitalise Centres.
